Short answer. For beach and pool, June to September are the warmest and driest months; August is the busiest. For walking, Granada and the Alpujarra, spring (March–May) and autumn (October–November) are the most comfortable. Winter on the coast is mild, with average highs around 17–19 °C in Motril, but it is also the rainiest period.

Season by season

Spring (March–May)

Average highs rise from about 20 °C to 24 °C in Motril. Good for walking, the Alpujarra and visiting Granada before the summer heat.

Summer (June–September)

The warmest and driest months on the coast, with very little rain in July and August. August is Spain’s main holiday month, so beaches and roads are busiest.

Autumn (October–November)

The sea and the air are still mild. The apartment’s pool is open until 31 October. Rain becomes more frequent from October.

Winter (December–February)

Mild on the coast, with average highs around 17–19 °C, but the rainiest months. Snow is possible in Sierra Nevada and the upper Alpujarra.

Good to know

The Alhambra has different opening times in summer and winter, and tickets often sell out in high season: book early on the official website.

Mountain weather is colder than on the coast: bring a warm layer for the Alpujarra outside summer.
